Key takeaways
- Digital products are anything sold online that isn’t physical: ebooks, templates, courses, Notion boards, prompt packs and more, and they can be built once and sold repeatedly.
- Find a niche by cross-referencing your skills against your interests on paper, then checking what problems creators in that space aren’t already solving.
- Social media (Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest) is the cheapest and most scalable place to sell, using a simple content-to-DM-to-sales-page funnel.
- You don’t need money to start: Canva, ChatGPT and your phone’s camera are free, and platforms like Gumroad only take a commission rather than an upfront fee.
- Around an hour a day, roughly seven hours a week, is realistic for building momentum, and starting with a low-ticket product (an ebook or template) beats jumping straight to a full course.
Intro
Sammie opens by naming the squeeze most listeners will recognise: spending power down, treats cut back, the constant feeling that something has to give. His answer isn’t a lottery-ticket side hustle, it’s a slow, learnable one.
He leans on a stat that stuck with him: a large majority of people say they don’t feel fulfilled by their day job. Rather than chase the “Lambo in Dubai” side hustle fantasy, he pushes listeners to think smaller and more achievable: how do you make your first £100?
From there the maths gets friendlier. Sell something for £10, ten times over, and that’s £100. Repeat that ten times and you’re at £1,000 a month. Digital products, Sammie argues, are the easiest way to get there because you build once and sell repeatedly.

What actually counts as a digital product
Sammie’s list is deliberately huge: ebooks, PDF guides, Excel and Notion templates, courses, workshops, ChatGPT prompt packs, even Lightroom-style presets. Anything that solves a problem and can be downloaded rather than posted counts.
The appeal is the maths. He points to an Etsy seller offering a simple habit tracker built in Google Sheets for a couple of pounds, with thousands of reviews behind it. Even accounting for how few buyers actually leave a review, the product had plausibly generated tens of thousands of pounds from something that may have taken a couple of hours to build, or been outsourced cheaply via Fiverr.
If you’re weighing this against other options, it’s worth comparing the time-versus-return trade-off against other side income ideas before committing your evenings to one path.
Finding your niche (even with no skills)
Sammie’s niche exercise is simple: write your skills on one side of a page, your interests on the other, then look for where the two intersect. Public speaking plus a love of football might point towards coaching content, for example.
Once you’ve got a shortlist, the next step is research, not guessing. Look at what creators in that space are already doing on Instagram, TikTok and Reddit: what content they post, what they charge, and crucially, what problems their audience keeps raising that nobody’s solving yet. Unanswered questions in forums and comments sections are, in his words, free content ideas.
If you genuinely feel skill-less, Sammie’s advice is to go and get some. He built his own personal finance niche from scratch by reading, watching and testing until he knew the subject inside out, treating the learning itself as the content.
Where to sell and how to build a funnel
Sammie’s own funnel is simple: content on social media hooks someone with a problem they recognise, a call to action gets them commenting a keyword, an automated tool like ManyChat DMs them a link, and that link leads to a sales page. He sells primarily through Stan Store for smaller launches and System.io for bigger ones, though Etsy, Amazon, Gumroad and Kajabi are all viable alternatives.
He’s candid that Etsy is hard work: strong product photography, reviews and patience are all needed before it pays off. Social media, by contrast, costs nothing beyond time, which is why he treats it as the main channel.
Cost, time and realistic expectations
The tools Sammie actually uses cost little or nothing: Canva for design (a free plan is enough to start), ChatGPT for filling creative gaps, and Google Docs for writing it all up. Selling platforms either charge a flat monthly fee (Stan Store) or take a commission per sale (Gumroad).
On time, he’s clear that an hour a day, batched however suits your schedule, is enough to build momentum around a full-time job. He’s equally clear that “easy” isn’t the right word: success took him months of consistent content and iteration, not a single viral post.
Before you start reinvesting any digital product income, it’s worth checking your emergency fund is solid and using a budgeting calculator to see where the extra £1,000 a month would actually make the most difference.

[0:00] Sammie Ellard-King: Hello and welcome back to the Money Gains Podcast. Now, this episode today is another one of the solo episodes where I’m going to deep dive a little bit more into some of the side hustles which I’m working on, and the overall goal is to learn how to make an extra thousand pounds a month. Realistically, I feel like that’s a target that we should all be going for. And today I’m going to be diving a little bit more into my favourite side hustle right now, and that is digital products.
Now, I’ve got a bunch of questions which the audience have all asked me, and I’m going to go through them in as much detail as I possibly can to give you guys really the beginnings of a roadmap to be able to start thinking, get those cogs turning in your mind, and get you moving towards creating your own online business, or just as a side hustle and get you going towards a thousand pounds a month with digital products. How’s that sound? Well, let’s get into it on the Money Gains podcast.
Okay, so ladies and gentlemen, this is really for me, I feel like right now we’re being squeezed everywhere. You know, spending power is down, we’re struggling, you know, we’re cutting back on the pints in the Friday night, you know, boozer. We’re telling the kids they can’t have these things, and it it hurts, right? It’s not acceptable. We shouldn’t be having this thrust upon us, but we do, right? So we need to find ways of improving things. Now, I think having a side business is amazing because there was a recent study done that actually said that 84% of people don’t enjoy or don’t fulfil or don’t feel like they’re making a contribution to society with the job that they do, and that’s really quite upsetting because that’s a very large portion, pretty much, you know, eight and a half people out of ten people that you know don’t enjoy doing what they do.
So what would it take to do something that you do enjoy doing? And I really want you to think about that. I heard a quote by entrepreneur Brian Lubin, he said, Do you take one look at your boss? Do you want their life? Do you want to look like them, walk like them, and or talk like them? And if the answer is no, then what are you doing chasing that and giving up your time to work towards that? Now, everyone is online talking about side hustles that make them 10k, 20k, and you see these guys driving Lambos in Dubai, and look, that is really difficult.
So I want you to just think about this for a second. Start small and with something easy to envision. So, how can I make my first hundred pounds? You see how the energy is completely different there when you think about it like that. So, realistically, you’d have to sell a product that was 10 pounds 10 times to make 100 pounds, and to make that thousand pounds, you’ve got to repeat that 10 times. When you think about it like that, it becomes a lot more achievable. Now, the reason I love digital products is because what we do is we combine your passions and your skills together to create something that people want.
You’ll be so surprised. So, the first question, and that leads in nicely, is what are digital products? Essentially, very simply, they’re anything sold online that’s not physical. It’s really that simple. But when you get into it, there are honestly thousands of digital product types. Now, you’ve got books, ebooks, you’ve got PDF guides, travel guides, Excel spreadsheets, budgeting templates, courses, online workshops, notion templates, a free folder of premium content that can help you solve a certain problem, and workshop, a cohort, ChatGPT prompts, online wallpapers, LUTs for your camera, you know, designs, digital art, so many things.
Now, the list is literally infinite, and you can get really creative with this. And the magic of digital products is many of these you create them once and then you sell them over and over and over again without any extra effort. It’s not clogging up the spare bedroom with a bunch of boxes. It’s literally the most scalable thing on the planet. Now, when we break that down into the thousand pounds a month, £17.50 a day, that’s two sales a day, is your thousand pounds a month. Now, I really think that that’s totally doable.
And we’re gonna get into how you actually do that because for me it’s very simple. We need traffic, and traffic needs to go to an audience, and the audience needs to like that content and trust it enough to move into a sales cycle, which is basically a very simple sales page where you’d have your offer and your product for sale, and then they make the sale. Obviously, we need to get them to do that, but I can teach you how to. So realistically, I want you to just quickly think about this because this is nuts, right?
So there’s this guy I found on Etsy, and there are millions and millions of these on Etsy. Now, am I a big fan of Etsy for selling digital products? No, we’ll get into that in a bit. But if you can do well on there, you can do very well. So he’s got a habit tracker, really simple Excel template that he’s made on Google Sheets. It’s up for like £2.54, and it’s got over 7,400 reviews. And then when you think about this as well, only 20%, that’s like thinking top end as well.
So it’s probably more like 10% of people actually leave a review on the product when they buy it. Like, do you leave reviews? I don’t leave reviews, so just think about that. If there’s seven and a half thousand of them, so if we base it off the 20%, he’s done 88 grand in sales from a £2.54 product, which probably took him around two hours to knock up on Google Sheets. Now, he may have not even built it as well. If you go on Fiverr, there are tons of people.
Fiverr’s basically a place where there’s tons of freelancers for everything you can possibly think of, from design to managing anything. It’s amazing as well. If you if you want to freelance, um definitely look into Fiverr and Upwork as well, it’s another good one. But on Fiverr, he could have paid someone 50 quid to create that, probably even less, because you know, there’s people from all over the world in you know, left less affluent countries that will do the job for you know quite cheap. So you can get some really great work for quite cheap.
So he might have spent 50 quid on that, and then he’s got a habit tracker, which he’s put up for sale on Etsy, and it that would do him, based on these numbers, around about 88 grand, just from one little product, which is absolutely mental when you actually think about it. So, yeah, look, I want to move on to the next question from our audience, which we got, and that was how do you start selling digital products? Now, this is a great question because essentially I I mentioned it very briefly here.
So we’re going to talk about the nuances of this. Essentially, what you need is content. So without content, you’re not going to get anywhere. So you need traffic, eyeballs to see your content, and from that content, they need to want to do something. And ideally, that is to go onto your sales page and then want to uh buy your product. Now we need to move them from scrolling, scrolling, scrolling, hey, I’m having a lovely time scrolling, and to oh, I like that. Oh, they’re solving a problem which I have in my life, or a problem which I didn’t know I had even better.
And now I’m hooked on this content, i.e., a hook. We’ve all seen them. And now I’m watching this bit of content. This content’s making me feel something, and it’s making me want to do something. Oh, okay. They’ve said comment the word, let’s say grow, comment the word grow. I’ve now I’ve commented. Oh now they’ve sent me a DM. Now that there’s a link there. Now I’m on a sales page. Now I’ve bought a product, right? You see how this is, and this is called a funnel. And there are way, many ways of many different types of funnels across the world, but that’s really, really simple one, and that’s one that I use.
So I use social media, I use video mainly, but content can be in many different forms. So you can have written content, which could be blogs, could be tweets, could be yeah, could yeah, could be LinkedIn posts, for example. You could have audio podcasts like the one that you’re listening to now. You’re all listening to a podcast right this very second, people. Audio is another one. Uh it could be video, and video is the main one. Video is the big one right now. We’re all watching short form content, we’re all scrolling on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube shorts, and obviously you’ve got YouTube as well for longer form content.
So video is massive. Video is the one, right? If you look on my channel, I’ve got multiple videos that are over 2 million views now. The amount of money that they bring in per if you manage to get them to go viral like that is is crazy. One one post alone has done around £6,000 in sales, so it can be done. And if you master content, especially video content, you can really, really ramp up digital product sales. So I will talk about viral content and how to create that in a minute.
But really, to start selling digital products, you need one or two things. So you need content to generate traffic to get to your digital product, and then the actual digital product itself needs to be solving a problem or making a person feel a certain way, feel better about their life, teaching them something, learning something in an area that they want to grow in. So mainly it’s problem focused. So we’re solving that problem for them, i.e., the problem of learning, we want them to teach them something, or they’ve got a problem.
So am I saving them time, saving them money, making their life a better and easier? These are problems that we’re solving for our audience. So our digital product has to do these things, and then we need traffic to get towards it. Now, this might sound really, really complicated, but it’s not. It’s all about attention and it’s all about utilizing a framework which works. And I’ve been in marketing for nearly over over a decade now, well over a decade. I’ve been a marketing director for many of that, and I have spent years testing different frameworks which work.
And then how to so basically you don’t have to, and most importantly, that’s a really, really important there. You don’t have to. So these frameworks really do work. Okay, so next up we’re going to think about how we actually find our niche. Now, I like to use this exercise. It’s a really, really simple exercise, and it just gets the creative cogs turning a little bit. So on one side of a bit of paper, take out a bit of paper, on the left hand side, write down all of your skills.
So this is what you think you’re good at, what your friends tell you you’re good at, what mum and dad have told you you’re good at, anything that you’re good at, like literally anything, go down to the minutest detail. If you’re like really struggling here, you’re good at something. Everybody’s good at something. So just think about that. What is that? It can be anything from like public speaking to tying a shoelace. Like, what are the things that you’re good at? Everybody’s good at something. So write that down.
And if you feel like you’ve got no skills at all, then we’ll get on to that. But on the other side of the paper, now write down all of your interests. What do you like doing? Like, what do you really enjoy? What is it? What gets you up in the morning? What makes you feel something when you do it? What do you binge watch a thousand million YouTube videos of? Now that is your interest. So what I want you to do is then look logically between the two lists.
So I’ve got skills on one side and I’ve got interests on the other. Start drawing lines where an interest and a skill would intersect. So if you’re public speaking and your skills are, let’s say, football, for example, or your interests, sorry, are football. So public speaking and football is okay, that leads very well to sort of football coaching, coaching skills there. So okay, I’ve got an intersect there. So you see how those two might connect together. So you’re looking for logical ways in your interests that your skills come into it.
So that’s what you you need to do. Go down the list, start joining the lines together, and where you start to formulate some ideas. Oh, I’m good at that, and that works really well with this interest. So they come together. This could be my niche. Then when you’ve got a couple of ideas, because this should generate at least a couple of ideas. If you’re not, if it’s not, then you need to think longer and harder and work through it. Don’t rush this because this is, you know, your bread, this is your going to be your bread and butter for the next year to think about this.
It’s got to be right. Um, but once you’ve got something, so hopefully you’ve got a couple of ideas now. What I want you to do is hop onto Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, these types of places. What are the creators doing in the space already? So, what type of content are they creating? What kind of videos do they make? How do they interact with their audience? What do they what does it look like? What kind of captions do they use? Is it super visual? Are they using high-tech equipment?
Is it simply recorded on an iPhone? These are all things that you can start to ascertain just by looking at the content. Sometimes it’s a little bit harder to tell, but you know, you can get a good thing if someone’s making selfie videos where or it looks like a bloody movie. Like they’re very different, right? So start to look at that. Could you see yourself doing that? Think about it now. Okay, yeah, no, I couldn’t see myself doing it now. I might need a bit of training on the content side of stuff, but I could probably get to that point.
Brilliant. Great, because we’re learning here. You know, not everything’s gonna come easy to us. Remember that, guys. Like, we’ve got to learn here along the way. This is a growth journey. If you want to get to a thousand pounds a month, we’ve got to learn and grow along the way. So then look at what problems they’re solving for their audience. What is making them stand out? How are they interacting? And what products do they have and how much do they charge? So, this is very interesting. Look at what they’re offering.
You know, are they offering digital products right now? Are they leaving things on the table there, perhaps? Are you, you know, you might have gone and looked in the comments or some of the forums on Reddit and seen that like there’s loads of problems in this niche, but the creators on Instagram, TikTok, they’re not answering them. That right there is gold. If they’re not answering them and you’re seeing them in forums, people are literally telling you what their problems are in Reddit. So you are gold there.
That’s like literally a content strategy 101. Like, take a problem, solve the problem in a bit of content, and you will make sales. So then you need to look at the niece. When you do this, you’ll probably go, well, can I see myself being in this niche for 12 months? Would I actually get bored? This is a big question. Like, you might go, hmm, actually, I don’t know. Like, you know, that sounded good at the start, but having looked at this, is don’t know if that’s for me.
But when you go on this journey, you might then find a sub-niche of that main niche that you thought about in the first place is for you. So you might go, oh, I like football, but actually football coaching is the thing that I’m gonna focus on. Or, you know, I liked design, but actually I’m gonna focus on graphic design for business owners, right? I’m gonna go and help them do that. The skills of becoming uh basic graphic design to so you can grow your business. For example, that’s a real sub-niche of the niche of design.
Or interior design for homes, uh, for you know, for new homes, interior design for new homes, uh, falls under interior design, which fell under design. So we’re sub-niching down here. So you you might decide that you’re gonna what you’re gonna do just by going on this exploration process. Now, what a lot of people will say, uh, this is another question that we had. What if I have no skills? Well, in all honesty, everyone’s got some skills because you’ve all gone and done a job at some point.
So you’ve got some skills there. What if you feel like you haven’t got any skills at all? Well, the most profitable niches out there are health, wealth, and relationships. So if I can do it and going into personal finance, then you can too. Because what I did was when and I learned. I went and learned a skill. So I started from scratch and I learned it until I knew pretty much as much as I could possibly know. So I was pretty much an expert in that space.
Now, I’m not calling myself an expert, but when you do something over and over for years and years and years, you know a lot about it. So go and learn. Go and pick up a book in that niche that you liked, in one of your interests, and learn. Like, honestly, people make a lot of money by sh basically showcasing their journey. And you’ll remember that once you’ve picked up a few books and learned about a topic, or watched a ton of YouTube videos, or done a few courses, or whatever that is to go and learn, you don’t have to read a book, then you’re gonna be better than the person that you were three months ago that was thinking about doing this.
And you’re now in a position to maybe teach beginner level because you’re at intermediate level now. So immediately when you think about it like that, it changes the game. So if you’ve got no skills, go and get some skills. Okay, what are the best places to sell digital products? Now, this is a fantastic question and one that I get asked a lot. Now, there are many, many places you can, but for me, the best one is via social media. That’s because it’s the place to be right now.
Social media is growing, Instagram is growing, TikTok is growing, Pinterest as well is growing. These are all platforms, and guess what? They’re free to use. You don’t have to spend any money to go on them. So you don’t have to go behind these big payment walls to be able to utilize them, and you can reach millions of people, which is just nuts. But if you want to know some others, there are some good ones. You know, you’ve got Etsy, you’ve which I’ve mentioned before. It is very, very difficult.
There’s a lot to learn on it, you’ve got to get it right, it takes time, you’ve got to get reviews, great product images, these types of things. It is really difficult to make a lot of money on Etsy. Um, but if you can do it, great, like it’s a good place to do it. There’s some fantastic YouTube videos out there that will teach you how to make money on Etsy. Um, but just beware, it’s not easy. Social media is a lot easier. Um I’m telling you that now, having done this in a few different niches.
So you’ve also got Amazon as well. Like Amazon, you can sell Kindle books on, for example. There is honestly loads of places you can sell digital products. You can sell them via your own website. So, for example, if you’ve got a brand already, you could have a little e-commerce store, you could sell them on there. So don’t get pigeonholed to thinking that what I feel like is the best, which is social media, into a third-party website such as Stan Store. Now, Stan Store is literally just a storefront that was made for creators to sell via Instagram and TikTok.
It is amazing. I love it, and that’s what I use. So that’s what’s in my link in bio. Um, but I also use uh a system.io, which is literally for my bigger launches for my bigger products, and you can build proper amazing landing pages on there for free and house your courses and stuff like that. But there’s also Kajabi as well. Check these places out, and there are so many places that you can sell them. So for me though, social media is the one right now, simply because in my reels, if you go and have a little look at some of my videos, what I’ll do is I’ll hit them with something that’s emotional.
So problem agitation solution. That’s what they call it. We call it the fancy framework in in marketing, but it works, right? So you have a hook in your content, which usually is a problem that the audience needs to solve. So let’s say, for example, how to budget, how would I budget a 50k salary? Someone who doesn’t know how to budget but wants the budget and is in and around that salary area is immediately perking their ears up and wants to go and learn how I do it.
So I put them in a problem state. I agitate that problem by going through their budget, and they’re because their budget will be different, right? So you kind of give them a good framework for their budget, but their budget’s gonna be different, so we’re agitating them. The solution at the end is if you want to learn how I budget, I’ve got my ultimate financial planner. Comment the word budget and I will send you the link. So we hopefully get a lot of eyeballs from our video because our video was good.
We push them into uh doing the comment, we give away lots of value in the caption. And essentially, from there, we then want them to pop their comment in. And then once they’re commenting, we use a system called ManyChat. Now, ManyChat is an automated DM. So when they comment that word, it triggers that message. And in that message is a link to our store. Then once they get onto our store, they then essentially, if our copy is good, our explainer copy is good and our offer is good and our products price well and our image looks nice, then they make that purchase.
So that’s for me, is right now is the best place to sell because you can get millions of views on Rails and millions, uh, you know, some of my videos have got five, six thousand comments on, and it’s so that’s five to six thousand messages that have got into inboxes. So it’s five, six thousand opportunities to try and sell my digital product to them. Not bad for free. Uh all it’s taking is my time, which we’ll get on to in a sec. So, how to create viral content?
I’ve mentioned it briefly there, but essentially we really want there’s two things here. So, hooks are massively important. So, how are we hooking them in? How are we showcasing that problem? How are we making them peak their interest where they really want to watch the rest of the video? What’s how gonna happen in this video? Why am I gonna stay on? You know the ones where you watch them from start to finish because they hooked you in really, really quickly. Now, there are two different types of hooks: there are visual hooks and there are text-based hooks.
Now, a combination of these two is what makes a video a viral video, in my opinion. So this is can be done very, very simply. So, for example, you see a lot of my videos. I sit down at my kitchen table, my dining room table, and uh behind me, I’ve got nice shelves, nice plants, the mirror there, got the lamps, things look nice, right? And um I sit down, I light a candle. So the vibe’s nice, right? If you if you scroll down, you’re like, oh, that’s nice.
That looks good. That’s a nice shot. And then on the screen, I’ve also got my text-based hook. And my text-based hook is doing majority of the heavy lifting there. That’s putting that person, as we said, in that problem state before and making them want to read on. And then it’s all about keeping them on the video for as long as possible. It’s not anymore, and don’t let anyone tell you that you need comments, likes, and saves. They do matter, yes, but they are not the contributing factor.
The contributing factor is how long the person watches the video for. Forget about like telling your mates to like your reels anymore. That’s a thing of the past. Yes, as I mentioned, it does still matter. So you do want people to engage with your content, but the main thing is that they watch most of it. So you you’ve got on your insights a little thing that says watch time on Instagram. And as long as that’s, you know, above 50% of your video, you’re doing a very good job.
So that is what creates viral content. But there is a lot more to it, and um, I’ll get into some ways that you can do that in a minute. How much time do I need to put in? This is a wonderful question. Now, how much time do you need to put into this? Well, you will get out what you put in, really, really simply, but you can do this with 60 minutes a day or less. Now, I spend a little bit more on my content because I really want to ramp things up, and it’s shown in my results.
I’m basically nearly at 100k. I’ll probably be at 100k by the time this um podcast goes out. If not, I’ll be pretty close. And I was on January the 1st looking at these results, I was on 4,500 followers, and then on January the 5th, I was on 5,000 followers. So by the end of March, in just under 85 days, I’ve gone and done 95,000 followers. Now, that’s because I put the time in to think about my audience and exactly what they want. What are the problems that they’re facing right now, and how can I solve them over and over and over again and provide so much value, give away 90% of the things, and they will pay you for that 1%.
And if they don’t pay you, they will follow you, and then hopefully you can get them into some sort of product at some point which is suitable for them because not all of your products are going to be suitable for every single one, and that’s another thing as well. We’re not creating one product here, we want an army of products. If you look at me, I’ve got four live, I’ve got more coming, and they are off the back of data because I utilize them, I create communities.
Now, this is really important. So, talking about this at the beginning, when you’re starting out, your 500 followers, your 100 followers you’ll have after your first few videos put out. Um, they are like your tribe, like nurture them, message them. How are you doing? What’s going on? Like, what challenges are you facing right now? Like, you need to create like as many cheerleaders for you as you possibly can. And those early days are pivotal to that. So spend some time in the DMs, get to know some of your followers.
As you grow, that’s a lot harder. But still, you know, you want to be chatting away with people as much as you can because they will tell you their problems, and often that’s a really good either a bit of content or a digital product if they’ve got if it’s a big enough problem that you can solve. Now, think about that. They someone tells you over and over again they’ve got this problem and you solve it with a product. Are they quite likely to buy that? Yeah, I think they are.
So, how much time do you need to put in? Realistically, you want to be putting in one hour a day. So, seven hours a week. You can batch that. So, a lot of people will do three, four hours on a Sunday, and then they’ll do you know an hour here or there in the week. But realistically, you need to be fitting this around your nine to five so you keep it up and you grow it. But we really want to get you to that thousand pounds a month and then a lot more from there once we get you to that thousand pounds a month.
But that’s the first benchmark. If you get to a thousand pounds a month, it adds a lot of things to your life. So, really, we want that one hour a day. So try and do that. Okay, so how much does it cost to get started? Now, the beauty of digital products is they cost nothing. Nada. Silch. Okay, here’s the thing. I use Canva to create. So graphic design. If you’re not a graphic designer, Canva’s your best friend because it has so many templates on it, which make you look like a super uber unbelievable professional when you’re not.
And it’s so easy to use, even my nan could get the hang of it, and it’s free. So you can go and create a digital product, and it’s there’s so many templates already for books, for guides, cheat sheets, you name it, it’s on there. And you can export it as a PDF. You can, it’s high quality, fonts are amazing, designs are amazing, everything looks beautiful, and you are honestly have everything you need. The pro version is very useful. I’m not gonna lie. I upgrade, it’s $12.99 a month, but you don’t have to spend that if you don’t want to, but I do because I really like some of the effects which are behind the pro paywall.
However, you don’t have to. Now, ChatGPT, another thing, if you haven’t come across it, where have you been? Essentially, it’s an AI, a language software AI, but it can help you with that extra. I use it essentially for that extra 20%. So my brain can only come up with so many things, but if I ask the AI, you know, what angles haven’t I considered here within my my thinking, my frameworks, it will tell me like, okay, you’re missing these things, why don’t you add these things in?
So it’s your cream on top. I use it, and also the three point ChatGPT 3.5 is free. So that is massively, massively important. Um, I am really sorry if you’ve been hearing my dog like lick himself to death down here. I’ve just realised that he is. I’ve got headphones in, and so I’m hoping it’s not on the playback, but um, I’ve just told him off. Okay, so yeah, ChatGPT, free to use, Canva, free to use, your brain, free to use, Google Docs, for you to write these things out, free to use.
So you could come up with a whole digital product for free, start making your content for free using your phone, which you already own, and the editing software, which you can download on there’s CapCut, there is um there is the Instagram edit thing itself. There is so many different things that you can use on there for you right now, which are free. So you could literally create an entire product for free. You could have it live, you could do your content for free, you could have it on a store for free.
Now, there are two different types of stores. There are ones that you put it up, and then when they make a sale on they you give them a commission, or there are ones that you pay a monthly subscription for. The one I mentioned earlier, Standout Store, is a monthly subscription, so I’m not gonna lie, that would be your cost there. Um, and Gumroad takes 10 to 15%. I think does now. I’ve stopped using it years ago because stores like Stand Store came out. Um, but Gumroad, you you can get stuff up for like online for free, but you are paying a commission on.
We’d definitely check that one actually. Let’s uh make that a mission for to check out Gumroad, but you can then essentially then have that up online for free, so you’re not actually paying anything other than the commission you pay them back. So costs, as you can see, very, very low. Very low. Okay, so that’s why I love them because you can start creating what I call low-ticket offers, so ebooks that are you know 50, 60 pages of not massive amounts of content, and you can get that up for you know seven to 17 pounds depending on the value that you’re putting out.
If it doesn’t bang, which if we’ve done things right and our ideation and our problem solving and all these types of things, and you know that it’s going to. However, if it doesn’t, you’re not you haven’t spent months on a course coming up with something, right? So you start low-ticket and then build into the harder, the bigger products, like courses, workshops, and and you know, event series, because the courses and workshops and event series come off the back of you understanding your audience way more because you’re then building a bigger product to solve a bigger problem.
So don’t go steaming in there creating an online course straight away. Please don’t do that. Start low-ticket, something easy, which can generate you some sales, some traffic, some community, and then move into the harder products. Okay. So that’s how much it costs to get started. Now, the last question is is it easy to be successful? Now, I think this is very important for us to go over because making money online isn’t easy. It’s not easy, people. It’s very, very difficult. Now, the reason. So the last question is is it easy to be successful?
Now, this question for me is huge because nothing in life is easy. Anyone that tells you that making money online is easy is lying to you. Okay. Now, if you were to start this from scratch without a framework like the one that’s that I’ve spoken about today and the deeper strategies that I go into in my emails and our products to help you with this, then it would be a lot harder. Yes. So there are ways that you can make it easy. Uh, easy uh, I will say, but it’s not easy.
You’re gonna need to put the effort in, you’re gonna need to learn, you’re gonna come across hurdles, and when you get to those hurdles, are you gonna jump over them or you’re gonna clatter into them and cry and run off and quit? And essentially, the people that stick at it and consistently iterate, for some people, what happens for them in their first few videos, they just get it straight off the gate, or they they just hit a product or a problem so well, straight off the bat, and they’re lucky and they come at it.
Other people, it takes a couple of months, other people it takes three to six months, it very varies massively, but if you put the time in and the effort in, you will get there 110%. And so it’s not easy to be successful, it takes time, it takes dedication, it takes learning new things, it takes pushing through the hard times, it takes it takes stepping out of your comfort zone. So just be clear that that’s journey that you’re gonna have to go through and just stick at it because you’ve got people like me here that are cheering you on to the last hurdle until you get to that thousand pounds a month, which really will change your life.
Think about that right now. What would that thousand pounds a month bring you? What could it do for you? For me, it was massive. It helped me not only get out of debt, but now it’s it helped me propel me to having a lot more in my investment pots. And eventually I used side this Up The Gains was was a side hustle. It started as a side business, which I built on the side of my hospitality business, which I had, and it’s now become my main time thing simply because I put the time in, I iterated, I kept building, I kept going, I kept waking up at five o’clock, not saying you have to 5 a.m.
in the morning and doing four hours before work and doing another three, four hours when I got home, not saying you have to do that at all. But that’s what I did to build this type of business. It needed that. So look, if you really want to be a success and you want to start making money online, this is one of the biggest opportunities out there right now. It’s a 234 billion pound industry. It’s set to rise to 1.2 trillion by 2027. And if you feel like your niche is so already already saturated, then don’t worry because I went into personal finance, literally the most in difficult niche on the planet, and I built a six-figure business out of it.
So it’s totally possible. Frequently asked questions
Not necessarily. Canva, ChatGPT and your phone camera are free, and platforms like Gumroad only take a commission when you make a sale rather than charging upfront.
Sammie recommends starting “low-ticket”: a short ebook, template or guide priced around £7 to £17, rather than jumping straight into building a full course.
It can work, but Sammie is honest that it’s hard to get right. You need strong product images, reviews and patience, and he personally finds social media an easier route.
Around an hour a day, or roughly seven hours a week, batched however suits you. It’s designed to sit alongside a full-time job, not replace it immediately.
Everyone has some skills from past jobs and experience. Sammie suggests picking an interest, learning it properly through books, videos and courses, and teaching what you learn as you go.
